Equipment Operator
Job Description
Operators drive side load garbage trucks, and complete pre-and post-trip inspections and ensure equipment is clean and in proper working order. They load, compact, transport, and unload refuse and recycling at designated facilities; follow complicated residential area routes and ensure residents receive excellent customer service; keeping loads within legal limits, and following all applicable laws and regulations.
Qualifications
Successful candidates will have at least one year of on-the-job truck driving experience which includes at least six months of driving equipment requiring a Commercial Driver s License(CDL). Preference may be given for CDL drivers with heavy equipment experience. Must possess a valid Class B CDL with a valid DOT Medical Card at the time of hire.
Knowledge of general operation and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment; routing for efficient and effective coverage making sure all streets and stops are serviced in an assigned geographical area, and follow the laws regarding refuse transportation and regulations governing CDL operators. Be able to drive and operate heavy equipment in a safe manner; work effectively in a team and individually. Must be able to read, understand, and follow safety procedures. This position requires a full range of motion in the shoulders, arms, hands, wrists, legs, and feet. Must be able to push, pull, or lift up to 100 lbs. as necessary to ensure route is complete and free of debris. Must exhibit manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Must drive and sit for extended periods while exposed to traffic hazards, inclement weather, noise, dust, fumes, grease, and potentially unsanitary conditions; the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory. Must climb into and out of equipment on a regular basis. Note:
This position requires the operator to drive from the right side of the vehicle.
Starting Pay:
$35,713 annually, $17.17 hourly. Recruitment Closes:
